Holi 2017

A lot of folks celebrated Holi last weekend. I had just got back from Asia and was very tired, not to mention going through tooth ache. So we were very happy to celebrate Holi this weekend with friends.

Eveyone was colored.. we saw Indians, Chinese, White folks, Hispanic folks, black folks. . . the pets.. and we pulled in the cops to play Holi as well and they were nice and got colored by the kids!

There were a 1000+ people in Foster city and the gang went and had a fun time with colors and jumped around to music from the DJ.

Here are a few pictures that just show how big this was..

and the one shot that made my day of the 200+ taken over two hours..

Happy Holi everyone! May this year bring you a feeling of oneness with everyone around you.. When you are all colored in such hues, you realize what true equality is and happiness is in sharing love!

Today total strangers came and put colors on me and let me put colors on them.. we gave a smile, hugs and wished Happy Holi !!

As long as there is love, there is hope!

Holi 2016

Holi came and went this year. Given my travels, was glad to be part of a Holi celebration with the gang last weekend. As a kid growing up in Tamil Nadu, there was no Holi. My best memories of student days in Varanasi are of Holi..

Great time with friends, Colors, Baang, the mud bath at the end to wash off colors, a feast, did I already mention baang?!

We did celebrate in style at the local park with dry colors and great food! This year it happened again. We started seeing familiar people show up to our group only to realize there was another larger group planning the delayed Holi in another area of the park. Pretty soon, we merged the groups together for even larger fun as every family in our group knew someone from the other group!

Jr. was at her best and she had a lot of fun with her buddies. This one is probably the best shot from the entire collection of pictures for the day...

Then we did get a family portrait. Yes, the litle one looks plain compared to the rest of us. She had to go to a  meeting right after the Holi party and did not want to shower. So we respected her request to "not be Holi'ed"!

All said and done, it is great to have the company of people who can put a smile on your face and make you celebrate with abandon!

Was thinking of IT-BHU all day.. three buddies in the group are my seniors from College and that made it even more special. One thing my college trained me for well? If not Metallurgical engineering, it is to play Holi with style... and to teach our kids how to play Holi!

Here is to the festival of colors !

The Devil is in the details...

This year the kids made me proud. Told them that we were on a shoestring budget for costumes when Daddy was going through the whole "job change" phase because that was the weekend we went shopping for costumes.

They dressed up as a cat and a devil. The devil costume will be retired this year finally as it barely fit the little one. She made the most of it in return for a promise that next year she gets a snow white costume.. a new one!

Here they are posing before stepping out!

They went trick or treating with their classmates while we (me and my parents) gave out candy to the countable kids who showed up at our door.

Unless we get streetlights, don't think anyone is going to come to this street for candy! Well, the street itself is spooky to start with... so one would think it will make a great Halloween street.. but NO!

The candy collection is impressive and that means the adult has to control himself and stay away from the bags of candy over the next few days!

By now I am used to Halloween. It takes you a good 10 years to get used to a festival you cannot grasp!

Krishna's Birthday

Lord Krishna is probably happy what with the kids inviting him to our house to taste some real yummy goodies (all courtesy of the MIL)!

We kept it simple.

MIL cooked.

We thanked the god for being who he is.

We ate!

And we are still eating...

Festive season

This weekend is a festive one in the house. First Varalakshmi Nombu/pooja was celebrated by the girls and ladies in the house Friday evening. The house was standing room only and the food (all taken care of by MIL and San) was yummy!

The girls dressed up in their last set of new clothes and posed for me as usual.

Today was Aavaniavittam aka thread ceremony, which comes with some more yummy food for me. Considering this is the one festival for the men in the house (man in our case) the ladies were kind enough to cook new goodies today!

Yoga was bunked because of all the over eating and that was a double whammy. Tomorrow will be a day of yoga and meditation. There is a 1008 Gayathri mantras to be done and some hot yoga to go with it...

Another year has rolled by and we enter the festive season !
