Bharatanatyam

Jr. went on stage for the first time today. She did a great job and did not show stagefright. We were all very happy with her performance.

Another summer day spent driving around in the hot sun and the adults health is going for a six. After watching the performance, the little one is trying out some freelance moves which reminded me of the old days where my brother and me would try karate moves after coming out of a Jackie Chan movie. Some of the little one's self concocted moves are really amazing. Hope to sneak up and catch it on video one of these days. She cannot wait to be six so she can also learn dancing..

On another note, the kids have picked up some slokams from daddy over the recent weeks. Finally managed to slip in a Sri Rudram CD into the van and displace Slumdog Millionaire from the top slot. At first there was the usual stubborn refusal to change the CD.

Now that they hear daddy sing along with the CD and they find it so amazing that daddy can recite minute after minute of what seems to be an endless tongue twister, they asked me "how do you remember all that? Can you teach me how to sing it?" Have patiently broken down the first Ganesha slokam and they so excited that they can sing along too!

Do not know if they will continue on, or this will be it. If anything learning slokams will improve their ability to memorize things, which always comes in handy in any education system. So far so good....

Wow is the only thing I can say after watching these videos.....Jr. seemed so confident on stage that even while she was adjusting her dress, she did it so casually and never missed a step!!! too good I say!!

The sloka recital was also too good, its difficult to get these sanskrit words, especially for the LO - my son who is almost the same age as LO, still has his mazhalai!!! LO seems to recite the words so perfectly.....

Loud applause to both of them...

Sundar ,
I lurk around here some times..The videos are lovely. But the Rudram cd in the car isnt the right thing for the basic reason that they are not really shlokams but mantrams...a mantram as you know should be recited properly,at a proper place and with due respect. Sitting in the car with shoes on and singing along is quite disrespectful to the mantram itself.I dont intend to question your way of things but just thought I should let you know.No offense ...

Wow to reciting the slokams, the lad learnt quite a few tamil saami paattu when he was about LO's age, he now claims to be agnostic/atheist :)

Can't see Junior's video on this, will check it out when I get home. Congratulations

oh she looks lovely - n i noticed she n the gal in front of her were so insync - u couldnt stop looking at them ;)

i love how confy she looked on stage no nervousness at all ;)

will the little one be joining as well ;p

Anon : i've got a question - god is supposed to reside in the heart of all his devotees so won't it be disrespectful to wear shoes entirely since ur heart is the abode of god?

are you supposed to forget god at all times? and only remember n recite him when you're perfectly in tuned with all ancient rules that was man made? i wonder?

for someone who recites the gayathri manthras / sings gods verses whenever she feels down or disturbed by her surroundings ur comment was quite funny
