Sexual Harassment
Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 10:51PM Recently took a course at work on the topic. Have taken many a course on workplace ettiquette, sexual harrassment etc. over the last decade (especially after they made it mandatory), but this was the first time we had a lawyer give us the course (and there was no paper exam!, but a spot quiz)
It was interesting to see the range of subjects covered, especially the case studies. It was almost a course on law itself, from the legal point of view, how we would think something is "suing" material, while it is not and other things we would not think are worth suing over which really are etc.
For the most part I was going "come on. no one in their right mind would do something like that." or "this sounds so far fetched. why do you have to lecture us on this stuff", to the borderline "duh! I have been working in the US either at School or industry for all these years and have never encountered anything like this" etc.
The lawyer told me that all the stuff he showed are examples of things that HAVE happened! Just could not believe it.
On an afterthought, I must have been blessed in a previous life not to have seen any of that stuff around me.
Thank god for small favors, or big favors!
The one other thought that won't leave my head?
In this day and age, women in America still go through this for real! Somehow cannot get around that. Words fail me!

"This day in America women go through that..." - Well whatever be the day, advancement and sophistication, The human basic instinct is the same. So as long as the human race continues, this kind of harassment will be there, may be in subtler forms.
I went through a program on Child Sexual Abuse...and i thought we were inhuman and animal as a race..Or atleast we were fast getting close there...

like I said.. how could it be possible that this goes on around when you dont know.. does this mean people I know are getting abused and they keep it well hidden?!

Yes, I know. Its a vicious circle many times. Many times women don't want to disclose for so many reasons and try in their own way to protect themselves. Some get lucky.
