Kaarthigai Deepam - Photo Blog

We were all set to celebrate the Kaarthigai Deepam festival. Needless to say the festival involves lighting clay lamps, decorating the house, house cleaning, some really delicious eats like rice crispies in caramel (pori urundai's in Tamil) and of course the kids in the best of their finery !!

The celebration was somewhat muted by the little one being sick the whole of last week and daddy doing a blotched job of using Ant Killer spray (sprayed himself in the process and was sick like an ant that has just been sprayed!).

Lesson Here : If you do use old ant spray from two years ago, make sure you clean the nozzle before spraying !!

But we still managed some lights.

and here is the toddler in her new (altered) Silk Paavaadai !!

Getting ready for the holidays !!

aaaw very pretty.

And as to the ant spray, is this the reason behind you being sick last few days :)) Hope you are feeling better now.

yes and no wa. i had a cold .. just recovered from it when i got the frantic 911 from the wife and kid about the ant crisis in the bathroom.. in india you have an ant problem if you suddenly find your little ones being carried away in their sleep by a group of ants. in US, you have an ant problem if you see more than 4 ants go in a line. sad.. i should be more careful. i sympathize with the ants now..

anu, thanks. everyone except stupid daddy is okay now.

:)

I am pleased to visit this blog. The toddler with pattu paavadai reminds of those years when girls used to wear pattu paavadai during the auspicious days in all colours and make the whole environment awesome and enjoyable.
God Bless you and your family.

Nice tradition rite?? Very pretty! Pavadai's are the best thing about South Indian culture. I came across this article that talks about the latest Golusu pattu collection at Sri Palam silks in T.Nagar. Read http://www.articlealley.comarticle_884788_28.html" rel="nofollow">here.
