Stomach Bug vs. Yoga..
Bug won!
Woke up with an upset stomach today and bunked yoga, worked from home.. which is more difficult than working at work.
Somehow the respiratory system has found its immunity with Yoga but the digestive tract is still susceptible to bugs brought home by kids or colleagues.
Maybe this would have been a week long down event but thanks to the diet and exercise we are now down to one day events.
The ban on taking tablets of any kind is in force!
On the bright side, have learned to "Lock the knee" after five months of yoga. Turns out that one has to build enough muscle strength in the upper thighs to do this! Previously when I used to try and imitate the other experienced folks in the room, an attempt at flexing the thigh muscle would not get a response.. now we have a response.
Solid, concrete, one piece, unbroken knee!!!
Very happy. Hope to return to Yoga and work tomorrow.. stomach permitting.

Sundar,
Great you have achieved lock the knee. Its bit difficult for left leg compared to right leg.
Also write about 'SUCK THE BELLY IN'. Can you give some insight what you understand and doing ?
One more question, do you take electrolyte after every yoga session ?

sudhar,
suck the belly in .. again something I kept trying to do but nothing was happening for a long time. then one fine day after I had lost a lot of weight in my tummy area was able to pull my tummy in during the pranayama breathing exercise and wow, it made such a difference to expand the lungs instead of expand teh belly to take in the air.
pull your navel towards your spine a little in the upward direction. that is what they mean by suck your belly in..will try to post a video this weekend of my interpretation..
yes. I do drink either a gatorade or a gatorade bottle full of water(1/2 liter) with one pack of Emergen-C electrolyte every day I go to yoga.
now I am trying zico brand elaneer (coconut water) from trader joes.
:)
Thanks Sundar.
Keenly awaiting for the video post.
Suck the belly, is unsung hero unlike Lock the Knee. When i chat with fellow students, most of them not giving much attention to that. When i had a chance to chat with one Singapore Bikram Yoga teacher (who pass by Dubai studio), he told it is very important part of standing series. (what about floor series, i forgot to ask). Unfortunately not able to discuss in detail with him.
Belly Sucking is for all Standing series ? Some floor series also they asked to suck the belly.
For Pranayama, do u suck thro' out posture or only during inhaling ?
Regarding Electrolyte, i too drink tender cococnut, the natural electrolyte nowadays(we will get like India roadside).
Do you drink (Electrolyte/tender coconut) before, during or after session?
Thanks for introducing Bikram yoga, now its become part of my life.
Hope you feel better soon and kudos to you on mastering the lock knee :)
I like your attitude ,you give a sincere answer to any question:)
so here is another one of mine , what are your thoughts on Jr kumon and the rush of indian pushing their kids to
overacheive/achieve at such an young age .
Thank you again
anon, thank you.
dont know what Jr. kumon is.. my kids go to Kumon.
our almost 9 year old has been going to Kumon since she was 4. she started with counting dots, drawing between lines etc.. and is now doing fraction addition and subtraction. she started 4th grade last week.
the little one (amost 6 years old) has been doing Kumon since she was 5. she started first grade. she started with addition and is now in subtraction.
in terms of achievement they do okay in Math for their age and compared to their classmates.
the kumon helps with one thing more than math.
discipline. making them spend 10-15 mins every day to do something on a routine! and saves us some time in teaching them basic math at home.
hope that answer helps.
